Privacy Policy — Eat It Or Wear It
Eat It Or Wear It (shown on your home screen as Recipe Book) is an iPhone app made by EIOWI, LLC ("EIOWI", "we"). This policy explains what happens to your information when you use the app.
The short version
- Your recipes and photos are stored on your iPhone.
- EIOWI runs no server for this app. We have no account system, no analytics, no advertising, and no tracking.
- We collect no personal data. Nothing you put in the app is sent to EIOWI.
- Some features you choose to use do involve other services: a website you import from, Apple Reminders, Apple's Spotlight search, and apps you share to. Each one is described below.
What we collect
None. EIOWI does not collect, receive, or store any personal information from the app. The app contains no analytics, crash-reporting, advertising, or attribution software, and no third-party code of any kind.
That is a statement about what EIOWI collects. It does not mean no data ever leaves your phone. The features below can send data to places you choose, or to Apple's own services.
Where your recipes are stored
Your recipes, recipe photos, and app settings are stored in the app's private storage on your iPhone.
Your recipes do not sync between devices. There is no EIOWI server and the app does not use iCloud syncing. If you delete the app, your recipes are deleted too, unless they are in your own iPhone backup. Backups are managed by your Apple account, not by EIOWI.
Apple Intelligence features
On iPhones that support Apple Intelligence, the app uses Apple's on-device language model for features such as recipe cleanup, help importing recipes from web pages, shopping-list assistance, and search. The app is built to use Apple's on-device model. It does not request Apple's Private Cloud Compute (server-based) model.
These features run through Apple's system software. We can describe what the app asks for, but we can't make promises about how Apple's own frameworks behave. See Apple's privacy policy.
Information that can leave your iPhone when you use a feature
These only happen when you use the feature. None of them send anything to EIOWI.
- Importing a recipe from a website. When you paste a link, the app downloads that page directly from the website you named, the same way a web browser would. That website can see a normal web request from your phone (for example your IP address). The recipe is then read on your iPhone.
- Sending a shopping list to Reminders. Items you export are added to Apple's Reminders app. If Reminders syncs through iCloud on your Apple account, those items leave your phone through Apple, not through EIOWI.
- Sharing a recipe. When you share a recipe, it goes to the destination you pick (Messages, Mail, Notes, another app).
- Spotlight search. So you can find recipes from iPhone Search, the app adds each recipe's title, summary, full ingredient list, tags, source, and times to your iPhone's Spotlight search index. That index stays on your device and is managed by iOS, but it does contain your recipe content, including your ingredients.
- Photos and text recognition. When you photograph a recipe, the app reads the text in the photo on your iPhone using Apple's built-in text recognition. The photo and the recognised text are not sent anywhere for this. When you choose an existing photo, iOS's photo picker gives the app only the photo you select.
- Cooking timers. Timers use Apple's alarm system on your iPhone so they can ring through silent mode and show on your Lock Screen.
Permissions the app asks for
| Permission | Why | When |
|---|---|---|
| Camera | To photograph a recipe or add a recipe photo | When you choose to take a photo |
| Reminders | To send shopping-list items to Reminders | When you export a shopping list |
| Alarms | To run cooking timers | When you start your first timer |
You can turn any of these off at any time in iPhone Settings. The rest of the app keeps working.
Children
The app is a general-audience cooking tool. Because EIOWI collects no personal information from anyone, we do not collect personal information from children.
Changes to this policy
If the app's handling of your information changes, we will update this policy and change the effective date above.
